White Sands National Monument is a very unique place. When we drove around it we felt we were driving in snow becasue it was white everywhere. As the name said, it was not snow but indeed white sand.
The park is in remote area. There is no hotel near by. The best way to explore the park and taking sunrise and sunset pictures is to camp there. You need to obtain a permit and hike about a mile to get to a backcountry campground. If you are going to take sunset photos, it is VERY IMPORTANT that you must bring a GPS. Otherwise, after sun goes down, there is no way you can get back to you tent!
